HISTORICAL MISSION

Maltese Aid was founded on 9th May 2002 by the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta – the Czech Grand Priory as the sole founder. As a charitable and humanitarian organization of the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, it bases its activities on a continuous 900-year-old tradition of helping those who suffer. The essential activity of Maltese Aid is to help the needy on the territory of the Czech Republic. The mission of the Maltese Aid is expressed by the order’s motto: „Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum“ (Defence of Faith and Aid to the Needy). The Maltese Aid is an integral part of the oldest charitable organization in the world and as far as the modern humanitarian activities of the Order are concerned – present and working in more than 110 countries around the world – from North America through the Middle East to Australia. The members of the Order of Malta and profesionals and volunteers take care of the sick, the elderly and with people with disabilities.

  • Streetwork programs for homless people

Voluntary programs:

  • Volunteer and material assistance in disasters (floods etc.)
  • Help to lonely seniors and physically handicaped people
  • Help to people who are long-term taking care of ill and handicaped (respite service)
  • Correspondence with prisoners
  • Social activation service for young children and families and for support of families
  • Volunteers for homless people
  • Help to physically handicaped people at special one-time events

Maltese Aid operates throughout the Czech Republic and helps all the needy without a difference. Projects of the Maltese Aid, whether nationwide or regional, try to fill the “white spots” in the aid to the needy in the Czech Republic Nowadays it has its activities in 12 towns around all the Czech Republic
